A Wisconsin dad has taken his Halloween celebrations to a whole new level by building a replica of Disney's Haunted Mansion in his garage.
Dan Schmidt is a design director at the resort chain who knows how to renovate the surplus space in his home. He's been plugging away at the project since 2014, and his children have likely enjoyed every last minute. Inspired by backyard PVC roller coasters, Schmidt used plywood to form the track's base. Schmidt's DIY Haunted Mansion originally but Gizmodo recently its spirit in time for the spookiest day of the year.
It's a bit more restrained than some of the other , but he's gotten his kids involved with the building process as well. It rumbles quite a bit, as some video shows:
Everything about the project is fairly straightforward, aside from the lenticular portraits of his kids wedged into the course. He also fashioned a pop-up ghost using PVC pipe, plywood and a shop vac. It's a ghastly sight:
Schmidt entered his ride in a “Haunt Your Disneyside” contest last year, and it's unclear how his creation fared. One thing is sure, though: He's totally winning the dad game.
