Everyone who's ever planted a garden knows that all that digging can be backbreaking work. Even a small bed of flowers or veggies in the yard requires a fair amount of bending, kneeling, lifting, and pushing—great for burning calories, but also messy and sweaty, especially in the hot sun.

Any tool that makes the job easier is a welcome addition in my house, especially if it's a tool I already own. This brilliant little device from Hammacher Schlemmer attaches to a standard household electric drill, and just like any other drill bit, its job is to bore a hole. But instead of a tiny hole for a screw or a nail, this digs out a perfectly round, perfectly flat-bottomed, perfectly plant-sized hole in the soil, with just the push of a button! The specially angled blades extract loose soil as they spin. All you have to do is pop your hydrangea plant or tomato seedling out of its container and into the hole—ta-da! You're done, no laborious digging necessary. How cool is that?

The drill bit comes in two sizes, six-inch diameter or four-inch diameter, and you can even get a 25-inch extender so that you barely have to bend over at all to use it. So what will you plant now that it's so easy to do? Here are some suggestions.
